Oklahoma and Texas Christian University get it on in Norman Saturday night as the Sooners try to keep the Sooner Magic chugging along and the Horned Frogs hope to pin a second loss on OU and give them an opportunity to get to a major bowl and win the Big 12. TCU’s hopes rest on the health of their two offensive stars, quarterback Trevone Boylin and wide receiver Josh Doctson. They are recovering from an ankle (Boykin) and a wrist (Doctson) suffered against Kansas and Okla. State respectfully. If they are limited (or out) the Frogs will be at a significant disadvantage. Both are “questionable” as of today. TCU coach Gary Patterson has said that if both practice by Thursday they will play.
Oklahoma’s win over Baylor makes the Sooners the favorite. Both teams have one loss in Big 12 play so the loser is out for a title in the conference. For TCU to win they must put the clamps on the Sooner passing game. Against Okla. State they failed and the Sooners will present another challenge for the TCU secondary. OU ran the ball on Baylor and if they run the same against the Frogs it will a long night for the Purple. I picked against OU last week. I will not this week. Sooners win around 41 to 28.
The other big game in the conference is Baylor coming to Stillwater to face the Oklahoma State Cowboys. If the Bears come in with their full compliment of players including their freshman quarterback it should be a close one touchdown game either way. Baylor is a beat up team right now and OSU is coming off a sub par performance at Iowa State. The stakes are big for the Pokes and I will take OSU 47 to 41. But don’t think I do not respect the Bears. I could see a big win for Baylor and it would not surprise me in the least.
In other Big 12 action:
Iowa State 27, Kansas State 24 in Manhattan
West Virginia 51, Kansas 14 in Lawrence
Texas Tech 38, Texas 35 in Austin
The National Games of the Week:
Notre Dame gets enough of the Jesuits this week as Boston College pulls the upset in Fenway Park. This is a rival game for BC and they will be ready. Notre Dame is looking forward to Stanford in this trap game. Stanford and Cal is a possible upset special but I just can’t pull the trigger on this one. But it will be close. Vanderbilt will take the Texas Aggies in a mild surprise. Look for LSU‘s Les Miles hot seat get hotter as they go down to Ole Miss in a not so close game. And finally, Michigan State goes to the Horseshoe to face the Buckeyes. It might be the game of the day and Ohio State plays their best game and wins close.
