RAID AND RAID 2 ARE GREAT…HAVOC IS NOT…..
Raid 2: the best martial arts movie of all time for me……can not get better…violent to an extreme…..should have been given an NC-17…..have it on blue ray.. GREATEST ACTON FILM EVER! (After my fourth viewing, my love for this movie continues to grow. I am past the action and now working on the film’s structure, it’s mood, the father-son relationship, and the quality of the actors, and the very best martial arts athletes that participated in this flick. I also have finally been able to compare this Raid with the first Raid, and with some compelling opinions from some of my friends into the action film genera, understand that “The Raid” might be, when all is said and done, a slightly better overall film. The various reasons are out there, but let us just say that these two films are what is best with Asian films. (Both films, Raid and Raid 2 are five stars for me on my Letterboxd and highly recommended.)
Raid: prequel to The Raid 2….on my second viewing today, Thanksgiving 2020, I found this flick to satisfy my need for pure entertainment as supplies by the Director and his “dancers” of choreographed fight scenes in a complete marvelous package. On my first take, I said it was secondary to THE RAID TWO, and even if it might be, this film is a look a a masterful film maker that can put excitement back on the silver screen. For a film made almost ten years ago, it might not have the moniker of the greatest action film of all time (The Raid 2) but I will not, after this 2nd viewing say that it is in any way inferior to the sequel. This is a great motion picture and one of the best films of the year it was made and the decade too. Highly recommended. (Five stars out of five stars and highly recommended.)
Havoc: This might be a Garth Evans movie, but the star of this one is Tom Hardy. A very moody take, this flick doesn’t get close of the two Raid films, but the action is good enough and the direction by Evans is still worth a viewing as of some nice camera angles and movement. I liked the film and find it entertaining. Viewed on Netflix. (Three and one half stars out of five stars on my Letterboxd review)
