LINCOLN RILEY GETS BEAT; JOSH HEUPEL’S VOLS TAKE DOWN  ‘BAMA…

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Utah Utes quarterback Cameron Rising (7) scores a game-winning two-point conversion as the University of Utah hosts USC, NCAA football in Salt Lake City on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022.

For the college football world yesterday was a good one for the folks in Knoxville, Salt Lake City, Fort Worth and Norman.  Could not be any worse for those folks in the corresponding cities of Tuscaloosa, LA, Stillwater and Lawrence.

Some Oklahoma fans have mixed emotions on Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel.  They cannot get over the fact that the former offensive coordinator at OU under Bob Stoops was fired and that Coach Heupel had hard feelings toward the situation.  Well, let it go and be happy for the former great player that brought your Sooners a National Championship.  A person does not have to be all fricken elated in getting fired, does one?  Heupel has developed in one of the best coaches in football and the Vols improvement and win yesterday against the Alabama football team proves it.  Again Sooner fans, if you hold anything against Coach Heupel you are the problem.  Good game Tennessee.

It was a very cooperating night for me to see the USC Trojans go down to a defeat in Utah last night.  Could not happen to a better program and coach in USC and Lincoln Riley.  Trojan fans, you to got what you wanted in Coach Riley.  He is a winner, great offensive mind, and and I might add, a West Texas scumbag deluxe.  Enjoy it while you can as Mr. Riley will be out of LA soon when the NFL jobs open up and the dollars come a calling.  This coach  chases the money as well as any coach.  Good game Utes.

TCU and Oklahoma State played a classic in the Metroplex as the Toads took a  43-40 double overtime win in a sold out Carter Stadium.  Two facts to point out.  The OSU defense, having played over a 100 plays last week, were worn out by the secod half and that overtime proved it as much as the final quarter where TCU came back from a two touchdown deficient.  As a local sports writer (Berry Tramel) pointed out, Coach Mike Gundy should have gone for the win with a two point conversion for the win but he went the kick extra point too.  I think that was a mistake.  TCU and OSU are my favorites to play in the Big 12 title game in December if the Pokes can take care of business this Saturday in a home game with Texas.  I think they will.  Good game TCU.

My faith in the Oklahoma Sooners and head coach Brent Venables improved a thousand percent in their win over the Jayhawks of Kansas in Norman.  The Sooners with Dillion Gabriel are as good an offensive team in the league and they can beat anyone still on their schedule.  Yet with a defense that can go south immediately, they can also lose to any.  Winning six games will still be a bitch but I think they can do it.  Good game Oklahoma.
