Brandon Weeden has signed a two year contract with the Houston Texans of the National Football League today worth $4,000,000 for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.  Weeden, former Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys quarterback, will back-up Brock Osweiler ($72,000,000/guaranteed

$37,000,000 for four years) who signed with the team on March 9, 2016.  Osweiler was the backup for Payton Manning last season in Denver.

Weeden is a former all Big 12 quarterback (2012) at Oklahoma State University and was signed out of college by the Cleveland Brown.  He was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 2014 to backup Tony Romo and again traded to the Houston Texans in the middle of the 2015 season after a less than successful run as a starter when Romo went down with injuries.  Weeden led the Texans to a win over the Indianapolis Colts in a spot start at the end of the 2015 season in Houston, helping them make the playoffs.  It was the first Texan’s win over the Colts in fourteen tries.

Weeden is a former all-state quarterback from Edmond (OK) Santa Fe High School where he led the Wolves to the 6A State Championship game against Jenks High School.  He also was a state all-star baseball player and signed a multi-year contract with the New York Yankees after his 2002 senior year at Santa Fe.  Weeden turned to football when his professional baseball career was cut short through injury and the inability to reach the high minor leagues.
