Maybe things in Norman are happening just to fast for the Sooners and their football team. Going into last week’s SEC opener for OU, everyone with a brain had an inclination that the defense was really good but the offense was not. With a Tennessee team more balanced with their offense complimenting their defense, head coach Josh Heupel of the Vols, played the game close to the vest. Heupel allowed his high powerd offense get what was needed to win, yet not pushing the button in a haphazard way. He too had a very young quarterback, knowing that turnovers could be an issue. They were, but OU was so inept with Jackson Arnold running the show, it did not hurt them. Heupel allowed his defense to completely smother a Sooner offense when it was needed and the Vols won by a score that did not show the actual difference in teams. OU was bad on offense. For Tennessee, it was a money game. And they proved they are the real deal.
This edition of Sooner football is currently void of a offensive line worth a poop and pass catchers with ability but cannot play as of injuries. Now OU has found out their signal caller is not the man to lead this group right now. Jason Arnold is not ready to give OU what they need. Hence, the Vols get a rather humdrum 25-15 win on the road against a Top 25 team. Good points for OU is that the defense might be the best in the SEC, no lower than 4th (Georgia, Tenn., Alabama), and that says that the Sooners will be a tough out this year. But without moving the ball and scoring, a tough out still equates to losses, which might be the destiny for them.
OU goes to Auburn Saturday and another close shave for either team. OU should win with their new freshman quarterback leading the way, but turnovers could make it close. Sooners win 19-17. It will be a defensive struggle for both the War Eagle and Sooners, with short fields after turnovers deciding the outcome.

Big 12
Oklahoma State was pushed around by the Utah defense Saturday in Stillwater as Ollie Gordon still could not get untracked to rush the ball. Poor quarterback play by OSU was also key as the Cowboys lost at home, 22-19.
