On further review (first time was at the Plaza Theater in OKC on NW 16th at age 15), I have upgraded my rating of Bandoloro! as of the fine screenplay as of screenwriter James D. Barnett. Director Andrew V. McLaglen, a workmanlike film maker does a better than usual job here with the fine cast he was given to work with.

Through the 50 or so years since this one was made, Bandolero! stands up well as of the wealth of good old western action with some nice detail of the early west just after the Civil War. The film deserves more praise than it has received.

James Steward as the hangman and brother to the Dean Martin character, stands out as one of his better performances.

To note: Larry McMurtry, the author of the novel Lonesome Dove, reportedly paid homage to Bandolero! by using similar names for the characters in his book. Do not have the flick.  Four stars out of five stars on my Letterboxd.  ‎Bandolero! (1968) directed by Andrew V. McLaglen • Reviews, film + cast • Letterboxd
