“TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A.”

AUGUST 2023

My second viewing today, 38 years after it hit the theaters of my hometown on Okla. City. First thing I can comment on is the relationship with the music and sound that influences the sights of this exciting flick. Boy, do I miss that sound of the 80s, a throw back where the filmmaker has fashioned a bloody good time at the movies where the sights go along with the sound. As of my love of the movie HEAT, this is about as close to that movie with regard to a film that excites the senses.

William Freidkin is one of the true master directors of film in his time (which has just ended with his passing) and this presentation is right up there with any of his best. Having William Peterson and Willem Defoe in their prime younger good looking best does not hurt this film in the least.  Please note cinematographer Robby Muller, a highly under-rated professional that never won an Oscar, yet being one of the finest in the business.

Both, highly regarded actors, are perfect here. With all the crap that is now found in the theaters and streaming services, if you want a good two hours of pure entertainment, check this great film out. I have upgraded the film from four to five stars as of my maturity of viewing a flick. Have the blue ray.
