18 for Football and 20 for Basketball
Jump ahead to the summer of 2024 as the Big Twelve Conference schools prepare for their upcoming season. With the new members added and the loss of the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns, the landscape of this Power Five group will look as follows for football:
Big Twelve Mid-East:
West Virginia
Cincinnati
Central Florida
Iowa State
Kansas State
Kansas
Big Twelve Southwest:
Oklahoma State
Baylor
TCU
Houston
Texas Tech
Colorado
Big Twelve: Pacific
Washington
Oregon
Utah
BYU
Arizona State
Arizona
With the 18 schools playing football, they will all split football revenue equally. As of contracts already signed with the conference, new members that are from Power Five conferences will get the same equal share that has been established (around $31,000,000) The conference membership for basketball will add two schools, Gonzaga and Connecticut, to the mix and will split revenue with the 18 schools, evenly for that sport only, men’s and women’s. Gonzaga and Connecticut will be members in all other sports (if they participate) and that money will also be split with all schools (20 total) that participate in any given minor sport, evenly as of sport, such as baseball, for example.
The Big Twelve basketball look will have two divisions with ten teams in each. Without naming the divisions, they would look like this. (UConn and Gonzaga will not participate in Football sharing).
Division A
West Virginia
Cincinnati
Central Florida
Iowa State
Kansas State
Kansas
Connecticut
Oklahoma State
Baylor
Houston
Division B
Washington
Oregon
Utah
BYU
Arizona State
Arizona
Gonzaga
Colorado
TCU
Texas Tech
The Big Twelve will determine the scheduling for all sports and how Big Twelve Championships are determined with the goal of getting as many teams in post-season national championship play as possible. That includes but is not limited to March Madness and the Football Playoffs.
Why would Connecticut give up Football, they will have to up their game but getting into the NewEngland market is toogiod
Good point. They could join the Big 12 for basketball only.
