Texas is not back but the Oklahoma defense is as the Sooners beat Texas 34-27 in the Cotton Bowl today.\u00a0 Despite a fumble and an interception thrown by Jalen Hurts, the transfer was good enough to lead the Sooners to over 500 yards of offense.\u00a0 The defense kept the Horns in check most of the game sacking the UT quarterback Sam Ehlinger nine times in the win.\u00a0 Lincoln Riley’s great wide receiver Ceedee Lamb had three catches for touchdowns in his ten reception game. \u00a0<\/span><\/h6>\n

OU has now set the stage for running the table with their rival Texas beaten today.\u00a0 A rematch in Arlington for the Big Twelve Championship game in December is a strong possibility but the Texas team probably cannot lose another conference game to get there.<\/span><\/h6>\n

Observations from the game:<\/span><\/h6>\n

  1. \n
    OU is much the better team than Texas.\u00a0 The first half, dominated by OU, should have had the Sooner up by at least two, probably three touchdowns, and not the 10-3 score as it was.<\/span><\/h6>\n<\/li>\n
  2. \n
    As much as Ceedee Lamb was the best offensive player on the field today, Kenneth Murray, Sooner linebacker was the best defender.\u00a0 “A great player, a great player,” as stated by Texas head coach Tom Herman said in the presser after the game.<\/span><\/h6>\n<\/li>\n
  3. \n
    OU ran the ball and dominated the line of scrimmage.\u00a0 The Sooner defense also dominated their line of scrimmage when the Horns had the ball, holding Texas to 100 yards rushing in 30 carries and sacking the qb nine times as mentioned.<\/span><\/h6>\n<\/li>\n
  4. \n
    \u00a0The Sooners kicking game proved to be good as the game was one of field position.\u00a0 OU kept UT in the hole for most of the game.<\/span><\/h6>\n<\/li>\n
  5. \n
    Jalen Hurt’s 131 yards rushing, the most ever by an OU qb in this game.<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
