(AP Photo \/Al Messerschmidt)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #992f2f;\"><strong>From Oct-2015:\u00a0 A most deserving Brian Bosworth will be honored Saturday in Norman as well as the 1985 National Championship team that defeated Penn State in the Orange Bowl at the end of that season.\u00a0 Good for the team and good for the greatest linebacker in Oklahoma Sooner history (with respect to Rod Shoate and many other All-American backers in the history of Sooner football).\u00a0 Brain,\u00a0one of the three\u00a0greatest I ever saw at the position for a college player along\u00a0with Shoate,\u00a0as the great ones\u00a0from the old Big 8 and the fabulous\u00a0Tommy Nobis\u00a0from the Univ. of Texas from the Southwest Conferenc.\u00a0 They were the greatest for many reasons, but watching them put the hurt on a runner, no one did it better than those three. You can count Brian out as a 3-time All American but that\u00a0is immaterial.\u00a0 Nobis and Shoate were three time All-Americans with\u00a0Bosworth a two-time Butkis winner as the best linebacker in the land when he played.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6>From an earlier writing by yours truly:\u00a0<strong><em><span style=\"color: #ad0a0a;\"> <span style=\"font-size: small;\">Brian Bosworth was as dominating a linebacker college football has ever had. Bosworth played at Oklahoma from 1984 through the regular season final of 1986. A two time consensus first team All-American and the only two time Butkus winner for best linebacker in college, Bosworth became larger\u00a0than life and\u00a0is known by the sports world as \u201cthe Boz\u201d. College Football News has him ranked as 30th on its list of the \u201c100 Greatest College Players of All-Time.\u201d In October 1999, Bosworth was named to the Sports Illustrated NCAA Football All-Century Team as one of only nine linebackers on the squad.
