The\u00a0basement of the Big Twelve football conference in 2017 will still be occupied by the Kansas Jayhawks.\u00a0 Sure, Coach\u00a0David Beaty\u00a0 (2-22, 3rd year)\u00a0has his team better equipped to win some games, and on a lucky day, beat a Big 12 team.\u00a0 Nobody\u00a0in the conference\u00a0has forgotten\u00a0KU\u2019s\u00a0upset over Texas\u00a0last year. \u00a0But to expect more than one conference win would be pushing it. The program in Lawrence is going to undergo a major renovation infused by millions of dollars to make it\u00a0more in tune with a\u00a0other conference schools, but\u00a0that will not\u00a0help this current team.<\/span><\/h5>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Offense:\u00a0 Will improve enough to give the Kansas defense a slimmer margin win games. Averaging about 21 points a game last year, 25 or more this year is expected.\u00a0 We have \u201cair raid light\u201d with Kansas, in that Beaty\u2019s\u00a0passing game is satisfactory with some good wideouts and a probable upgrade at quarterback.\u00a0 Washington State transfer Payton Bender has plenty of experience in this offense and will give the Hawks a much needed signal caller if 2nd year man Carter\u00a0Stanley can not do the job.\u00a0 Both are working to start the season opener. The offensive line is so-so but should be better than last season.\u00a0 Grade: C<\/span><\/h5>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Defense:\u00a0 Improvements along the front line as KU allowed too much yardage last year on the ground. Still, not a totally bad line.\u00a0 45 points\u00a0a game against\u00a0the team last year should improve and give KU a better chance in close games.\u00a0 Grade:\u00a0C<\/span><\/h5>\n

Kicking game\/special teams:\u00a0 Not very good and\u00a0improvement iffy.\u00a0 Grade:\u00a0 D<\/span><\/h5>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

In total:\u00a0 Kansas has\u00a0an opportunity to win more than two games.\u00a0\u00a0A win at home in the season opener against SE Missouri\u00a0plus a victory over\u00a0Ohio or Central Michigan\u00a0combined with an upset in conference would do the trick.\u00a0 Do not put money on it.<\/span><\/h5>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Head Coach Beaty\u00a0has his cup full of losses.\u00a0\u00a0His recruiting in<\/span> Texas is better but not what it needs to be to win in this league.\u00a0 The\u00a0assistants he\u00a0put on staff last year will be into their second year but losing will get old.\u00a0 Beaty is a better coach than his record shows, but it still a losing situation in Lawrence.<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n

Kansas will finish 1-11 and will not win a conference game.<\/span><\/h5>\n
