{"id":302,"date":"2015-09-14T14:54:00","date_gmt":"2015-09-14T14:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fredsportsextra.com\/?p=302"},"modified":"2015-09-20T12:55:31","modified_gmt":"2015-09-20T17:55:31","slug":"crimson-and-cream-overcome-the-hell-of-the-orange","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fredsportsextra.com\/?p=302","title":{"rendered":"Crimson and Cream Overcome the Hell of the Orange"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>The<span style=\"color: #ba0d0d;\"><em><strong> Oklahoma University<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>takes it&#8217;s historic football program to Knoxville, Tennessee, to play the Volunteers of the <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em><strong>University of<\/strong> <strong>of Tennessee<\/strong><\/em><\/span>.\u00a0 Just another football game? Not on your life.\u00a0 Two football\u00a0giants with unique personalities.\u00a0 One\u00a0draped in the blood of crimson and milk of cream\u00a0from\u00a0the greatest gridiron lair of the midlands. The other,\u00a0basked in the sweet orange veined bloodhound of old Rocky Top, clashing in the confines of one of the largest\u00a0cathedrals of the\u00a0South.\u00a0 The Big 12 and the Southeastern Conference pitted against each other. Where football is more important than life and death for many.\u00a0 An occurrence where the one hundred thousand people in attendance\u00a0on the holy ground of the God of Neyland is just a minor extension of the millions in the great bastion of college football that take a blood oath of following their legions of warriors.<\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>An overstatement?\u00a0 Ask the Christians after their conversion.\u00a0 Ask Johnny Reb when he made Picket&#8217;s charge at Gettysburg,\u00a0 Tell that to the men and women that live and die on each play of the big game that will live with them in their psyche for the remainder of their being.\u00a0 No overstatement whatsoever. Orange and Red meet for memories of a lifetime. And it does matter?\u00a0Yes!\u00a0 More than\u00a0a non-believe could imagine.<\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h5>The\u00a0man, a very important man, a leader of other men, much younger, almost broke down Saturday night after the\u00a0fight for eternity\u00a0between the orange and red.\u00a0 The emotion in his voice told\u00a0the faithful and\u00a0foe\u00a0that he was at the breaking point.\u00a0 A\u00a0through-the-looking glass moment\u00a0that allowed us to see his soul,\u00a0one\u00a0he has hid for most of his sixteen years\u00a0as the General of his men. Yes, he had let us glimpse at his unpleasant inner side, but not much on his softer, thankful one. One that he hides well, especially\u00a0when he tries to shield from the\u00a0soothsayers.<\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h5>Two and a half hours of being in a nightmare of total agony had set the stage.\u00a0 A horrible live experience of misery this leader of men suffered.\u00a0 What could go wrong did go wrong, and the depths of hell were just eight minutes away, with the hated orange devils of the Gods of the Horn,\u00a0the Cowboy, and now the Vol, licking their chops for a\u00a0taste.\u00a0 The man was conflicted in every way\u00a0that wasn&#8217;t good.\u00a0 Then the\u00a0one and true good god\u00a0of the\u00a0crimson and cream, saved the man as\u00a0the light of the\u00a0covered wagon\u00a0could be seen in the far distance making it&#8217;s approach.\u00a0 That light of\u00a0the cream (the\u00a0milk cow of the covered wagon),and\u00a0the\u00a0crimson of\u00a0blood (Little Red, the one and true Merlin of the\u00a0land) was drenching the orange blooded hound dog of Rocky Top, smothering the poor pooch with a death concoction.\u00a0\u00a0In it&#8217;s finality, the hound was put to sleep for the night, not to bark\u00a0until awakened the next Sunday morning. \u00a0It was a disaster of extreme proportions for the\u00a0millions that had claimed an orange\u00a0victory over the good of crimson by the\u00a0hound of Rocky Top.\u00a0 The tide of the red sea had\u00a0snuffed the dog in the next hour or so, putting the dog down. It was painful and horrific, and the memories would cut deep for that poor dead dog.<\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>The man, saved by his Mayfields of red, his own Shepard taking the place of the hound of the god of Neyland, and\u00a0his crimson\u00a0Perine of life, sits and tells of the wonderment of a new existence.\u00a0 A\u00a0world of\u00a0life, of past memories,\u00a0void of the color orange,\u00a0and\u00a0considers himself a man\u00a0of\u00a0joy that\u00a0rides\u00a0on top of\u00a0the road of despair.\u00a0\u00a0His\u00a0voice cracks and we can see the past\u00a0four hours mattered.
