(AP Photo\/Ron Jenkins)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The most important game for Kansas this season will not be their visit to Manhattan in game twelve to play instate rival Kansas State.\u00a0 They do not\u00a0have much of a chance to win that one, and will not be favored to win any other game in 2016\u00a0except their\u00a0season opener with lowly Rhode Island, a FCS member.\u00a0 The Rams did the Jayhawks one better\u00a0in 2015. They won a game, \u00a0something that Kansas did not do in Head Coach David Beaty&#8217;s inaugural season in Lawrence.\u00a0 Thus, when the fresh Jayhawks come onto the turf at Memorial Stadium on September 3rd, they better get it on or we will see, in all probability,\u00a0back-to-back winless seasons.\u00a0 Some Kansas fans will jump me and say that a home game with Ohio is winnable, which it\u00a0just might be.\u00a0 But don&#8217;t think Frank\u00a0Solich&#8217;s Bobcats won&#8217;t be a tough out.\u00a0 Ohio is a better football program right now.\u00a0 Put your money down at your own risk Hawk fans\u00a0.\u00a0 Ohio will beat Kansas a week later.\u00a0\u00a0For Kansas to win\u00a0(Memphis is the other non-conference game on the road) any other game would be more than a mild upset. This team is that bad.<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong> <\/span><\/h6>\n<h6><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Offense:\u00a0 With deficiencies at many positions, scoring will be a chore.\u00a0Sophomore quarterback Ryan Willis will get the start and will be directed by\u00a0 Head Coach\u00a0David Beaty who will be calling the plays.\u00a0 Willis threw nine scores last year and had one nice game with a 330 yard performance against Texas Tech.\u00a0 But then again, it was against the Red Raiders.. He suffered a wrist injury in spring ball.\u00a0 His back-up will be\u00a0 redshirt sophomore Montell Cozart.\u00a0 Neither signal caller can be considered upper echelon\u00a0even with the positive spin by the Kansas coaching staff, Kansas will suffer at this most important position.\u00a0 As for the offensive line, mediocre at best.\u00a0Texas A&amp;M\u00a0transfer LaQuvionte Gonzalez had 26 catches the past two seasons for the Aggies and will be the best receiver Kansas can offer. At 5&#8217;10 and 170, he is average at best. Running backs currently show no big time talent.\u00a0 Kansas will not be able to score enough to keep pace in most games.\u00a0 Grade: D<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Defense:\u00a0\u00a0 South Carolina transfer linebacker Marcquis Roberts will lead the Hawks as he is the best player on this side of the ball.\u00a0 He played all twelve games for the Gamcocks in 2012, starting\u00a0in eleven. \u00a0Solid linebacker\u00a0Joe Dineen Jr, a 6&#8217;2 225 junior will again make a presence. Fish Smithson, a\u00a0 5&#8217;11 201 senior\u00a0averaged ten tackles a game last year.\u00a0 He is a nice stopper and again will be looked upon making touchdown saving from his roaming safety\u00a0position.\u00a0 Junior College transfers Isi Holani at defensive tackle (6&#8217;3 325) will start.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0Defensive end <\/span>Dorance Armstrong Jr, at 6&#8217;4, 241 will\u00a0be counted on\u00a0as its new anchor on the defensive line.\u00a0 His play last year was just so so.\u00a0 As a group, this\u00a0 defensive unit is not going to stop many people\u00a0and will be on the field more than off.\u00a0 Holding the score down will be difficult, especially against average to better offensive elevens.\u00a0Look for the scoreboard to ring up like a slot machine on most Saturday afternoons.\u00a0 Grade: D<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Special Teams:\u00a0 Nothing to write home about.\u00a0 Grade: D<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>In total:\u00a0 Head Coach Beaty has bit off more than he can swallow. His recruiting into the Texas high schools should lend to wins in seasons three and four, but conference wins sooner than later are just not happening.\u00a0 Five new assistant coaches tell that the direction upward is going to be slow.
