W<\/em><\/span>ords from Oklahoma State\u2019s head football coach Mike Gundy this week give a accurate description on the life blood of the Big Twelve conference and mirror the feelings of Oklahoma University President David Boren and many other league followers. The\u00a0league needs their own network, the Big 12\u00a0Network.\u00a0\u00a0 The fact of the matter is two fold.\u00a0 First, if the University of Texas at Austin continues with their own Longhorn Network\u00a0through ESPN, the league will in fact blow up and it\u2019s demise is just a matter of time.\u00a0 The second fold of\u00a0the issue is that if this league doesn\u2019t rectify this situation with regard with this single team network for all conference members, the University of Oklahoma, in a future move,\u00a0 will \u00a0take it\u2019s name and associate it with a more progressive and brotherly conference such as the Southeastern Conference or the Pacific Athletic Conference. It is assumed, and rightly so, that Oklahoma State would piggy back Oklahoma and join the new conference together.\u00a0 The sports programs in Stillwater and Norman are highly attractive and would have no trouble taking their athletes elsewhere.\u00a0 This future dire outlook for the Big Twelve doesn\u2019t even include the issue of adding more teams to the league as a larger conference, which Boren\u00a0and others think, is a necessity and not a want.<\/h6>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Per CBSSports.com:<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we don\u2019t eliminate the Longhorn Network and create our own network, they\u2019re going to continue to have issues with this league,\u201d Gundy told\u00a0CBSSports.com.\u00a0<\/u><\/a>\u201cYou don\u2019t have a Big 12 Network; you have a network within the league that people consider a failure.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cEverything is based on marketing,\u201d Gundy said. \u201cRight now the Big 12 is not getting the marketing we need because of the Longhorn Network.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIf Texas doesn\u2019t [fold LHN] in X number of years, they\u2019re going to be in the Pac-12 or SEC,\u201d Gundy said. \u201cIf that\u2019s what they want, keep riding this horse. If you don\u2019t want that, you better make some changes or it\u2019s going to happen whether you like it or not.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In January, OU President David Boren spoke out about the disadvantages of the\u00a0Big Twelve and it\u2019s\u00a0television network setup:<\/strong><\/h6>\n

\u201cThe Big 12 is disadvantaged when compared to the other conferences in three ways. We do not have at least twelve members, we do not have a conference network, and we do not have a championship game,\u201d Boren said in a statement he released to OU Daily. \u201cI think that all three of these disadvantages need to be addressed at the same time. Addressing only one without addressing all three will not be adequate to improve the strength of the conference.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Time will tell if the Big Twelve gets the University of Texas under control.\u00a0 The league\u2019s life line may be short if the Horn Network continues in\u00a0it\u2019s current state operation.<\/strong><\/h6>\n
