“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, there is no place I would rather be than Oklahoma City,” Westbrook said today in a prepared statement. “I am so honored to have the opportunity to continue my career here with the Thunder. … When you play in Oklahoma City, you play in front of the best fans in the world, I’m looking forward to bringing everything I’ve got, for them, this city and for this organization.”
The Oklahoma City Thunder star accepted the max-five year extension from the organization worth $205,000,000, with a total payout of $233,500,000 when you add the current payout for the 2017-2018 season. In addition, Westbrook has an additional year option that could put the star in OKC for the next seven seasons. It is a strong possibility that Westbrook could end his career with the Thunder as he will be 36 at the end of the seven year period.
Westbrook’s new contract, first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, guarantees the six-time All-Star $233.5 million through 2022-23. The $205 million extension kicks in next summer, after his current deal pays him $28.5 million this season, and the final year of the contract includes a player option
With Westbrook’s new shoe contract inked with the JORDAN brand (Nike Company) for $200,000,000 for ten years, the super-star’s earning will be close to one half a billion dollars.
A closer look at Westbrook and his love for his “home” in the NBA tells a story of a man that understands that as you grow into a man, those around you that have helped you in making yourself a significant entity as a human being are not to be cast aside for personal happiness and for just “wanting to have fun”. Very well stated, Fred. I believe our franchise player will retire after fulfilling this new contract IF he wins a chip. He then will concentrate on his fashion businesses & try to be more present in raising his family. He has exceptional character in this day & age. I’m proud to support him in OKC.
