Washington and Ohio State disappoint and Clemson and Alabama prove they can play some serious defense

I got through the first touchdown after half-time in the first National Semi-final as the good old boys from Alabama took a commanding 24-7 lead over a out-matched group of “Dogs” from the Pacific Northwest, the Washington Huskies.  I cannot say for a fact that Alabama is much better than a very good defensive team but I can sure say that the best of the west coast Power Five conference was just not very good.  I don’t know if it was just tonight and the opponent, or that the committee that “chose” this less than powerhouse team was in fact enamored by the Huskies, but as the saying goes, Washington sucked big time tonight.

As for the Clemson Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes, it held my interest through the first half.  I turned that one off to watch some NBA basketball (as I am so tired of listening to the talking heads that bloviate at the half of games about these darn playoff games).  I did tune back in to see if Ohio State could break through with some points a few times in the second thirty minutes but actually gave up this less than stellar game.  Again, the committee choose a team in Ohio State, not even the winner of their conference, to play against a very good defensive team in Clemson. I will give the Tigers credit as they did score 31 on the Bucks, and proved they are as good as they were last year.  But for college football watching, the night was a bore.

I truly hope the National Title game is watchable, but after tonight, it would not surprise me to see Clemson put the Tide on the rails and beat the crap out of them.  Offensively, Clemson is the better team and defensively, it is a wash.  I am all in for Clemson in the title game. And it might not be close sports fans.  Clemson 26 and Alabama 17

  1. Personally nothing against Alabama Fred but I think IMHO that a Clemson win would be good for college football. It really needs to salvage something from this less than stellar bowl season. Here in Canada we didn’t even get 1/2 the games broadcast due to the World Junior Hockey Championship games. No one in my e-mail blog even seemed to care. Lastly on a personal note, Happy New Year and all the best for a prosperous 2017

  2. I understand what you are saying about Clemson and what their win would do. I am not a non-fan of either and have worlds of respect for what Nick S has done for Bama and how Clemson has raised the level of their play. The bowl games Monday should be good and the National Title game also if Clemson can put points on the board as I think they can. I do not think Bama’s offense is that good……there is also a reason why only one freshman QB in the past thirty years have won the NC. Happy New Year to you also. By the way, my brother-in-law is a special American citizen as he is known in Canada. He became a Canadian citizen last year and is now a duel citizen. If you look up the name Dale Kreimeyer on the net you can see what he did with regard to land ownership of non-citizens in Canada.
