As the Oklahoman  newspaper reported today, the Oklahoma State University sports fans have spoken and it is time for a change at the head of the men’s basketball program.  A couple of thousand fans in the historic venue called Gallagher-Iba Arena will not cut the mustard for Pistol Pete’s Ruben sandwich.  Enough is enough and the Travis Ford rein in Stillwater needs to end. With such a humongous buyout on his contract, $7.2 million currently,  Athletic Director  Mike Holder is between the rye of that sandwich.  Holder’s hiring of Ford seven years back was a bad hire.  Fact is, Ford’s time at OSU has led to a total failure of the program.  A once proud basketball school guided by the greats of Henry Iba and Eddie Sutton is now just a run-of-the-mill Power Five Conference bottom feeder in the hard-as-hell Big 12.  Holder does not want to shell out school money to relieve Ford from the job. It is possible that the money is just not there for such an action.  That is big time money. Plus Holder can not turn to another money source, that being the often on and currently off billionaire T. Boone Pickens’s, the cash cow that feeds Holder’s athletic program.  This is not a good time for the oil and gas business of the wealthy Texan.

What we have left is a resignation of Travis Ford on his good name of honesty and doing what is right.  Ford needs to ink the letter “I quit”, take a smaller, much smaller amount to leave, and scoot down the road to another job.  He has made millions on T.Boone’s dime and continues to milk the cow of the financial giant and the school he over-sees.  Ford would take a hit money wise, but his final act would secure a better legacy for his time at the University.  Right now, Ford is not the most liked figure on campus.

Will Travis give it up? No, probably not.  Probably has not even thought about it.  Probably not in his make-up, to quit that is.   But he would not be destitute if he did.  Ford is a rich man. But it would be the right thing to do.  You don’t stay at a place you are not wanted.  Pistol’s firing?

  1. We Need a new Coaches that can beat Oklahoma every year. I’m sick that Ford can not beat Oklahoma sooner in Norman or at home games. I haver been a fan of Oklahoma State cowboys for 13 years but our Basketball Programs needs to Changes. Fired Ford butt

  2. Let’s make it a two-for-one. Get rid of Holder too!
What he’s done to OSU Basketball with the Ford hire should be a crime!
